Learning Through Adaptive Sports
Learning Through Adaptive Sports
We foster the learning and personal development of children, youth, and young adults who are blind or visually impaired through full engagement in sports. Our programs create safe, healthy learning environments in which to grow, learn, play, and gain self-assurance. Adaptive athletics give blind children key tools to rise above negative concepts of their value to participate fully in society.
Our Mission
The Mission of Camp Possibilities International is to enable the robust personal learning and development of children, youth and young adults who are blind or visually impaired through programs centered around adaptive sports. We strive to create safe, healthy learning environments where young people can focus on growing, learning, playing and can gain the self-assurance that is so often stripped away by ingrained social stigmas surrounding blindness. By creating stability and fostering independence and self-fulfillment in children, youth and young adults who are blind or visually impaired, we can also help to dismantle the inhibiting shadow of shame and exclusion that makes a life with a visual disability especially difficult. Our own lived experience has shown us that even the smallest effort can turn a life on a troubled path toward a rewarding journey.
What We Do
In partnership with primary and secondary schools and other organizations, we provide learning programs and tools as well as basic materials, including personal hygiene supplies, clothes and small facilities improvements. These simple things, when absent, place additional barriers to the growth and fulfillment of dreams, and the enjoyment of a fulfilling life, for children, youth and young adults who are blind or visually impaired. Through example and encouragement, we help families and organizations support their young people as they create rewarding lives.
